Message for our Chairman

To all members,
I hope you are all well and looking for some racing in our racing league. Thanks for your support and patience during this pandemic, you will be aware that we had to cancel all events, including this year’s W200, the board and race Committee are hoping to have the league’s back on July.
All fees have been rolled on from 2020, we may have problems with venues so some courses may be used often. By now you all should have a Cycling Ireland limited competition licence as we are now affiliated to CI. A good number of people have spent this lockdown on turbos/rollers, so we would suggest getting group riding skills back to race level. We hope to run the limited calendar thru to Oct, and it will be important to observe all covid 19 protocol put in place by race Committee.
Once again thank you for your support and  patience, keep well and I hope to see you all on the road.
Mick Davis, Chairman I.V.C.A

Media Release  08.02.2021

Irish Veteran Cyclists Association

affiliate with Cycling Ireland

The Irish Veteran Cyclists Association is affiliating with Cycling Ireland as a new club for 2021. The IVCA previously operated independently of Cycling
Ireland however both organisations will now work together to achieve our shared objective of increasing participation in cycling.

The IVCA have a strong record of hosting high quality events which cater for women over 35 years and men over 40 years of age.
Traditionally, more than 75 road race, time trial, track and touring events have been run by the IVCA and the club aims to continue this strong tradition.

Further information regarding the IVCA Cycling Club League will be provided once the impact of Covid-19 restrictions is known.

Cycling Ireland Chief Executive, Matt McKerrow commented:

“We are delighted to welcome the affiliation of the IVCA to Cycling Ireland. It is a positive step and reflects greater opportunity and experiences for cyclists
and collaboration between all in the cycling community. Thank you to the Board of the IVCA for their engagement with us and their collegiality in bringing the affiliation to fruition.”

Mick Davis, chairman of the IVCA, commented:

“On behalf of the IVCA Board and members, we are looking forward to developing Veteran racing together with Cycling Ireland and UCI. With goodwill
and co-operation, the future of Veteran racing in Ireland will continue and develop.”

IVCA Covid 19 Update [28 July 2020]

Following on from meetings yesterday with the Race Comittee and the Board of Directors , we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the FULL Calendar of events for the 2020 season.

We are unable to secure ANY of our regular sign on venues, most are closed to the general public at this time due to HSE/GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS still in place.

So for this reason we can not organise any events for health and safety reasons.

These are extraordinary times and indeed unprecedented for everyone, and we ask for your patience and understanding during these difficult times.

The AGM is scheduled for Sunday 13th September at 2.30pm in the Springfield
hotel Leixlip. Please attend this meeting and we can address questions/discuss the situation in depth, and start planning for resuming racing in 2021.

Best wishes.
Ivca Board of Directors.

Please also note that with regard to the Wicklow 200, due to the ongoing impact and restrictions around Covid-19 the event will not go ahead this year, and is being re-scheduled for 2021.

We would be grateful if you could share this information with your fellow members, and would ask all members to check the HSE website regularly for updates on the national recommendations with regard to public health measures.

***POSTPONED*** 4th and Final Safety Briefing for members who have not attended one of Previous 3 meetings

***THIS BRIEFING IS NOW POSTPONED – A FUTURE DATE WILL BE ADVISED IN DUE COURSE IN LINE WITH PUBLIC HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS WITH REGARD TO INDOOR MEETINGS / VENUES ***

All remaining members who have not attended one of the previous 3 safety briefing meetings must attend this 4th and final briefing to sign in and collect numbers

The Race Committee has been busily working away over the last number of weeks to put together a full programme of racing events for 2020.

As has been the case for the last number of years, we will be holding a Race Safety Briefing Day for all racing members where race safety protocols will be presented, as well as the opportunity to collect numbers, and membership cards, and information on the race calendar and marshalling rosters will be available also.

The Safety Briefing is an important aspect of the IVCA Risk Management procedures, and forms an essential part of the documentation and obligations of the IVCA under its policies, in particular with regard to its Insurances policies held. The aim of the Safety Briefing is to ensure that the following topics are covered per the following agenda:
– That the Rules of the Road are to be observed at all times

– Responsible riding by all participants in all events

– the role of the Marshalls

– That all riders are riding under disclaimer, as stated in the application forms for joining the IVCA. All riders are electing to participate in any event entirely at their own risk.

– that documentation of attendees at the Safety Briefing meetings be retained, such documentation being evidence that all attendees have received adequate notification and awareness of the risks and their responsibilities when participating in any IVCA event

The Safety Briefing will take place on:
Monday 23rd March, in the Graduate Pub, Killiney Shopping Centre, at 8 pm.

If you have not already attended one of the 3 previous safety briefings already held on 29Feb / 1st March / 8th March, then you must attend the above meeting.

All members will be required to sign in, and under no circumstances shall members be allowed to pick up another member’s race pack.

As our members will appreciate, given the very large increase in premium, attaining insurance cover for the IVCA for this year has been both an expensive and difficult process. The Safety Briefing is an important obligation for members to fulfil in connection with our insurance cover, and for this reason, any racing member who fails to attend a Safety Briefing in advance of the commencement of the season may have their licence and membership revoked.

Race numbers/packs can only be collected at this event. They will not under any circumstances be distributed on the morning of the first race. Remember – no race number, no race.

The Race Committee would be grateful if you could please make your fellow race members aware of this event.
