IVCA TTL-10. Culmullin Circuit TT.

So that’s the finale of the TTL but not yet of the season as a whole. Next Saturday 18th, is the SatTTL finale at Johnstown Bridge and the following Saturday 25th we have the Options TT day at Moy Valley where last efforts for BAR / FAR 25 / 50 times may be had. It would be nice to see everyone out for that and the excellent Mother Hubbards’ breakfast afterwards.
That just leaves the two up and the hill climb to round off the year.
I’ll confirm the all league positions after final checks after the weekend.

TTL_09. 50 mile TT Championship. Moy Valley.

A fair morning for our last championship event.
Thirteen brave souls took on the test looked after by Medic ( not sure who was on duty ), timekeeper Harry and a full compliment of marshals so thanks to all, with four roundabouts to negotiate it’s great to have every junction covered.
Gold medal ride was by Hugh Davis with a super 2:06:06, and an Age Standard time of Plus 28:41.
In the process he actually lowered his previous years age record for a new age 71 record. On handicap Hugh was 6th.

Silver medal goes to Pat Byrne with a 1:58:24 ride for Plus 23:38. Pat took 5th place on handicap.

Bronze medal goes to Ian Cassidy with 1:54:16 for a Plus 22:52.

Fourth place was Phil Ormrod with 2:18:56 for a Plus 19:43, also good enough for a new age 74 record lowering Fred Harte’s 2013 record by one minute exactly.  Phil also took first place on handicap.

5th place goes to Mark Kidd with 2:00:47 for a plus 18:47 on his debut 50 TT with us.

6th place goes to Peter Raftery with 2:10:39 for a Plus 18:16 and also taking 4th place on handicap.

2nd place on handicap goes to Noel Conway.

3rd place on handicap to Ian O’Hara

Fastest – Ian Cassidy. 2nd – Pat Byrne. 3rd – Mark Kidd.

4th – Ian O’Hara. 5th – Ken O’Neil. 6th – Noel Conway.

Commiserations to Peter Rice and Brendan Byrne both of whom were DNF’s.

Final TTL event this coming Tuesday, 7th Aug at the green sheds for the Circuit TT.

Sat TT_09. 10 TT Kilcock.

So. The end of the drought, if today was anything to go by. More like a miserable morning in April 🙂

Ten very wet and cold riders and the same for the Marshals and timekeepers.
Thanks to Harry and Michael on the watches, Victor pusher off, and to Dave, Brendan and Eddie on the roundabout.
Next Saturday is the 50 TT Championships at Moy Valley. Note. First man off is 0900 not 1000 which has appeared inadvertently on an earlier calendar.
On the same calendar the Sanyo Cup on 16th Sept appears as 0900 which is also an error, the correct time being 1000.

Sat TT_07. 10 TT, Johnstown Bridge.

A beautiful morning but a disappointing turnout of just nine riders. I guess holiday time will account for that.
A full compliment of officials and marshals however so all went off safe and well.
Congratulations due to Ian Cassidy on lowering a long standing age 44 record with a great ride of 0:21:32.
Nobody beat handicap this morning but I got a nice bonus by being closest to it :-)..

Nice to see a couple of first time road bike competitors joining us, welcome Paul McDonnell and Gerd Benndorf.

Next Saturday we are at The Hatchet again. Another calm day would be nice 🙂

The following Tuesday, 17th, we are back to evening racing with the Al Fresco 25 TT at Black Bull.

IVCA 25 Mile TT Championship. Moy Valley, 24/06/18.

Race Report.
Although a beautiful clear and calm morning, which I thought would prove to be a fast one, it transpired to be harder going than many of us expected.
Non the less there were great rides in abundance with Hugh Davis leading the pack with an emphatic win with a superb plus 12:16 on age standard, 1:09 ahead of Ian Cassidy in Silver medal position and 2:02 ahead of Pat Byrne in bronze medal position.
Three riders managed to beat handicap with Karl Gallagher taking the win from Tony O’Malley and Peter Raftery.
Fastest of the 25 starters was Ian Cassidy setting a new age 44 record in the process of 54:43. Second fastest was Jonathon Grimes with a fine first ride with us of 56:27 . Third fastest  was David Carroll on 56;45 from whom Ian took the age 44 record, commiserations Dave 🙁
Many thanks as ever to the timekeepers and marshals and a special mention to the Mother Hubbards’ staff for the great plates of pancakes at the after race breakfast.

Founders Cup, 17 June 2018

After a very successful Wicklow 200 last weekend (and once again thanks to everyone who turned out to help), Sunday racing resumes this week in Summerhill with the prestigious Founders Cup to be competed for.

The Founders Cup was donated by the original founding members of the IVCA, whose names are engraved on the cup: Phil Byrne, Des Troy, Tom Dempsey, E. Dunphy, Denis Goody, Donal O’Connell, Dick O’Brien, Fred Smith and Paddy McInerney.

Sean Lally holds the record for the most engravings as winner of the event!

The race is run each year in an Age Related format.  Riders are handicapped in 5-year age groups, with the oldest riders first away.  This race is not part of the Road Race League, but the competitive spirit will no doubt be as strong as ever.

IVCA TTL_06. Kelly Cup.

Sorry I had to miss it myself and I obviously missed a good night and I see that I was not the only one as we had a low turnout.
Congratulations to Hugh Davis on the Age Standard win notching up another super age record time.
Five riders beat handicap, well done to all.
A surprising number of DNFs thanks to Dave Carroll for declaring a realised short course ridden. IT’S THREE ROUNDABOUTS AT ENFIELD :-))

Thanks as ever to Harry on the watch and all the marshals.

TTL-05. IVCA 10 ml. TT Championship.

Been having an extremely hectic week. Apologies to James Kinch whos’ handicap I had overlooked updating after his second ride at the distance.
Result now corrected and showing that James won the handicap 🙂 Off to a great start in time trialling James, well done.
The corrected result sheet has now been posted to TT Results.
Back to Moy Valley tomorrow evening for the Kelly Cup 25 TT.
HQ Mother Hubbards Truck Stop at Broadford.
Cheers,
Phil.
