Finish on a high – Hill Climb takes place this Sunday 2nd October

Hi all,

The Road Race Leagues are over, but there is one last chance for racing members to flex their muscles in the IVCA Hill Climb which takes place next Sunday, 2nd October, on Cromwellstown Hill, outside Rathcoole. The course is 2.25 Km long with an average gradient of 5.5% (maximum of 17%).

Parking and sign-on will be at the nearby Beech Park Golf Club, Rathcoole.  You can find the location by clicking here.  Sign-on is from 10.15 am, with the first rider off at 11 am.  Refreshments and prize-giving afterwards in the Golf Club.

Prizes will be awarded to the three fastest riders and to the three best improvers on handicap (i.e. their previous best time on the hill).  Anyone who has not ridden the Hill Climb previously on Cromwellstown Hill will ride off a handicap time of 5:38, the hill record set by Paul Dolan in 2019.

Preliminary Results SR_19 18th September 2022 Dunsany/Green Sheds

Hi folks,

As we approach the end of the 2022 season, it was great to see a good turnout for the penultimate race, held on the Green Sheds course.  Whilst it was a cool start, temperatures rose as we got underway, and with some tough racing as riders fought for league points or to finish their year on a high.

Thanks to those who marshalled on the day, and also to our hosts, the Dunsany GAA club.  I’m certain those who stayed on for the AGM were all grateful for the tea, coffee, and sandwiches laid on by the IVCA after a hard morning on the bike.

Please see below for the preliminary results.  If you spot any errors or omissions, please email racecomm@theivca.com and we’ll amend the records.  It would also appear that we made an error when recording those entrants in the Black group as we noted an unplaced rider with the wrong number.  So, when the full results are published later this week can you check to make sure you are listed as being there on the day, and if your name is missing, please let us know.

Preliminary Results SR_18 11th September 2022 Beehive/Jack White’s

Hi folks,

With the weather forecast predicting heavy rain on Sunday morning, it wasn’t surprising that we had low numbers of racing members and similarly low numbers of marshals.  Thankfully, the Race Committee were able to organise sufficient numbers of marshals and lead car drivers for the day’s events to go ahead.

Please see below for the preliminary results.  If you spot any errors or omissions, please email racecomm@theivca.com and we’ll amend the records.

A special thanks to those who stepped in to help out, particularly family members who came along to watch. Thanks also to those who raced for taking particular care on junctions where marshal numbers were limited.

Change of date and venue for Sanyo Cup

Hi all

The Sanyo Cup 2-up Time Trial will now take place on Saturday, 17th September to avoid a clash of dates with the penultimate road race of the season on 18th September.  The time trial will take place on the Summerhill-Kilcock road, with the sign-on and start/finish at Hatton’s hotel link below, roughly halfway between Kilcock and Summerhill.  The course runs between the roundabouts at Kilcock and Summerhill and is approximately 17.6 km long.  Sign-on will be open from 9 am, with the first riders off at 9.30 am.

The Sanyo Cup has been a constant feature on the IVCA racing calendar, with some of the biggest names in Irish cycling history etched on the trophy.  The time trial operates on an “estimated time” basis, with each team forecasting their time in advance.  The cup is awarded to the team which completes the course closest to their estimated time.  Prizes will also be awarded to the fastest team.

This year, IVCA members can invite a guest rider over 18 years of age to compete on their team.  If the guest rider is not already covered by Cycling Ireland insurance, they can take out Single Event insurance (One Day Licence) for a cost of €10.  This insurance can be purchased at sign-on.

We hope to see a good turn-out for the event.  Normal road bikes are welcome.

Please see below for the preliminary results from Sunday’s race on the Beehive course – new version with the Jack White’s Race HQ.

As with all preliminary results, we would welcome any input if you spot any errors or omissions – please email racecomm@theivca.com and we’ll make any necessary changes.

Thanks, as always, go to the marshals and officials on the day, who’s valuable time make our races possible.

IVCA Members Updated agenda for AGM Sunday 18th September

Hi all IVCA members

Advance Notice of Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of the Irish Veteran Cyclists Association Company Limited by Guarantee will take place this year on:

Sunday 18th September 2022 at Dunsany GAA Club, Dunsany, Co. Meath, commencing at 12.00pm.

As per the attached Agenda, the formal AGM will focus on the statutory affairs of the company. The formal AGM will be followed by a separate informal meeting to allow members to discuss sporting activities (i.e. racing, time trials, touring) and other operational matters of the IVCA, including the Resolutions set out below.

The following members are presenting themselves for election to the Board of Directors of the company for the next 12 months:

Dermot Moyne*
Kevin McFeely*
Brendan Culleton*
Thomas O’Connell*
Stephen Bradley*
(* Current Directors)

The election of each of these nominees will be voted on separately.

Mick Davis, Terry Ryan, Quentin Jansen and Ian Cassidy are retiring from the Board this year as they have all reached the 4 year limit after which directors must stand down from the Board in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association.

Mick Davis intends to nominate Dermot Moyne for election as Chairman of the Board.

As there are only 5 remaining directors, we are asking for any members who are interested in joining the Board to put their names forward as soon as possible.

The following resolutions will be considered during the separate informal meeting which will follow the formal AGM.

Resolutions;

1. That all Time Trials events, with the exception of the Saturday League events, be included on the
Marshalling Matrix and that marshals for these events be drawn from the general racing
membership.

– William Parnell.

2. That every effort should be made to avoid a calendar clash between the IVCA’s Road Race
Championship and the National Masters Championship or other significant national events, and
that changes be made to the IVCA calendar in the course of the year if such a clash of events
emerges.

– William Parnell.

3. That the requirement for members to marshal the Wicklow 200 be discarded.

– Mick Usher.

4. That in the interest and safety of our membership that the minimum medical cover at events/races should be Advanced Paramedic (AP).

– Mick Usher.

5. That the medical cover at the racing events held by IVCA is a minimum of an ambulance and an Advanced Paramedic.

– Eoghan Connolly.
