Results of IVCA Championship 25 TT, Moy Valley. 25/06/2017.

Yet another tough day for the TTers. Only two of 36 managed to beat handicap and as a major surprise when processing the result I found that yours truly took the top spot. Ian O’Hara took second handicap and Ed O’Brien third. Noel Guinan, Noel Conway and Joe Sheehy filling in the top six.
Ian Cassidy was fastest, way off his best, with Joe Sheehy second, Noel Conway third.
The major prize, Age Standard, was again taken by Ian Cassidy but this time his winning margin was squeezed, in comparison to recent results, to just 36 seconds back for second placed Joe Sheehy and third placed Adrian Byre just a further 24 seconds back. Hugh Davis took 4th, Phil Ormrod 5th and Peter Raftery 6th. A healthy mix of 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s in the result.

The special prize to the fastest Road Bike Rider goes to Sean Curtis with a 1:04:32. All the road bike finishers are awarded 4 points to their respective leagues tally, names will be notified to R Race comm.

A very encouraging turnout of 36 riders and a full compliment of marshals, timekeepers and Medic made for a smoothly run, safe and socially pleasant morning with refreshments in Mother Hubbards after the event. Without doubt our best HQ. Also our best 25 TT course albeit with the road surface deteriorating a lot. ( any one got an inside track to the council out there ? ūüôā ).
I’m a bit jaded so if anyone has any E & O E’s to report please do so.

PS. Those I have spoken to are in favour of shifting our last 25, the Al Fresco, from Batterstown to Moy Valley as we all consider it the best course. TT com.. will discuss this and send out confirmation or otherwise.

IVCA 25 Mile TT Championship.

Race Results Founders 50 – CP Summerhill Sunday 18th June

Thanks to all our Marshals, Volunteers and Medics on the Day, without whom we cannot Race !

It got hotter as the race progressed and the heat certainly was on the chase groups tried to catch all ahead of them !

The 50 – 55 Group held off the chasing groups ( 39 -44 & 45 – 49 ) of the younger men who did n’t even make a dent

into the gap of the group ahead of them. Managing to catch all but for the duo of Hugh Davis & Jimmy Lally who stayed

away out front. Hugh taking the win from Jimmy by less than half a wheel in a closely contested finish ! John Brady

took the bunch gallop taking 3rd. As they say age is only as the fast men stay fast !

Thanks to Brendan Culleton for full set of Pictures here

Sat TT_06. Hattons Restaurant Circuit 28 km TT.

Super day, super hard course, super venue.
Just nine riders plus timekeepers and four marshals out for the best conditions of the season to date. Excellent service of coffee tea and scones in the restaurant made for a very enjoyable morning out.
Ian remains unbeatable on age standard and fastest time, beating last years effort to create a new course record. Clear winner on Handicap knocking 3′ 13″ off previous best was Rodney Joyce. The two Ians’ and Phil also improved handicap times the three covered by only 0.06 % difference.
Next Sunday is the 25 TT Championship at Moy Valley. It is hoped that a good number of the road men will come out and try a ride against the clock. RR League points will accrue to those who do. The same applies to the 50 TT Championship on Sunday 6th August. More detail on that to follow.

Founders Cup

After another successful Wicklow 200 last weekend, Sunday racing resumes this week in Summerhill with the prestigious Founders Cup to be competed for.

The Founders Cup was donated by the original founding members of the IVCA, whose names are engraved on the cup: Phil Byrne, Des Troy, Tom Dempsey, E. Dunphy, Denis Goody, Donal O’Connell, Dick O’Brien, Fred Smith and Paddy McInerney.

Sean Lally holds the record for the most engravings as winner of the event!

The race is run each year in an Age CP format.  Riders are handicapped in 5-year age groups, with the oldest riders first away.

Best of luck to everyone taking part and remember, safety is the most important consideration for us in the IVCA.  Always stay focused on what is in front of you and hold a straight line.

Over 3,000 cyclists rode the Wicklow

The accolades are still coming in from people who rode the Wicklow 200 this year!

It is great for all of us in the IVCA to have been part of such a successful event.  Many seasoned riders said it was the best edition ever Рtough, but with great event organisation and excellent marshals all the way around.

Check out a summary of the event here.

Thank You Everyone!

On behalf of the IVCA, we want to thank all our members who helped us today and over the last week to deliver a fantastic Wicklow 200.  In spite of strong winds and frequent showers, the response we got from riders at the finish was that they thoroughly enjoyed the event and got a great sense of achievement from it.

Many, many riders commented on the excellent marshalling all along the route.

Our thanks, too, to everyone else involved Рfrom Alan Heary and his team, to our photographers, social media minders, and the team at Bray Emmets GAA club who did a fantastic job fitting 3,000 cars into their premises and guiding everyone around the complex with such courtesy and good spirits.

It really was an extraordinary day and the Wicklow 200 continues to be a fantastic event.¬† Without all of our voluntary helpers, it simply would not be possible to keep the Wicklow at the top of the calendar as the stand-out sportive in Ireland.¬† We will build on this year’s experience in our new venue to make it even better next year.

Chapeau everyone and thanks again!

The IVCA Board

WW 200 – the final countdown

Once again, we want to thank our members for agreeing to help out at the Wicklow 200 next Sunday.  A big thanks, too, to those who have been assisting in the preparations during the week.

*Some final important notes for you*

Please turn up promptly at your scheduled time.  You may be taking over from someone who has been on duty from early in the day, so your arrival will be greeted with much appreciation!

When you arrive at your designated point you must text your name to this number: 086 269 9059 so that we know your marshal point is covered.

You will be supplied on the day with some food, water and a hi-viz vest if you¬†don’t have one.

We would ask that all road marshals bring a couple of spare tubes, tyre levers and a track pump (if you have one).  If you have to give someone a tube we will replace it for you.

Mechanical and medical emergency numbers are on the numbers attached to the handlebars of the participants bikes. They are:

*Mechanical -* 086 862 1831
*Medical emergency -* 087 414 7210
Please stay safe and remember you are not allowed or expected to stop traffic. If you are at the top of climbs, keep telling riders to take care on the descent.
Many thanks again for helping to make the Wicklow an enjoyable event for all participants.  We hope you also enjoy the banter with the cyclists and encourage them along the way.
