We’ll Meath Again Tour Report

DICK O’BRIEN LEAGUE ROUND 7

We’ll Meath Again Tour is traditionally a wind down after the W200 and last Sundays tour was in keeping with tradition. Seamus Brennan organised and led the tour through 75km of beautiful country roads in the most amazing weather, probably the best cycling Sunday of the year so far.

Seamus, during his briefing, asked the group to turn their thoughts for a minute to fellow touring member Sean Pender, who tragically lost his son in Spain 3 weeks ago and to the late great Gay Farnan who so aptly named this tour many years ago. May they rest in peace.

Three members of the group had recently returned from a 600km cycle on the Costa Verde with The Irish Hospice Foundation which took them across the Picos de Europa including the torturous Cavodonga, which is regularly included in the Veulta, and they proudly sported their jerseys to prove it. Not to be outdone Seamus wore an even more colourful outfit which must be almost as old as he is but looks as good as the first day it was worn.

Seamus kept the group together at a very steady pace all day with just one puncture to report. Coffee stop was at approx. 50km in Jordan’s of Summerhill after which it was straight back the Summerhill Road at speed to the finish in Clonee.

After 7 rounds of the league Brendan Johnson and Tony Pearson are joint leaders with maximum points. Round 8 is the 100 in 8 and takes place on 11th August with a 9.00am start in Clonee.

Wicklow 200 Marshalling- **Final Reminder**

*** REPLIES ONLY TO wicklow200volunteers@gmail.com ***

The Wicklow 200 takes place this Sunday, 9th June. A recent survey of participants showed a high level of satisfaction with the organisation and marshalling of the event and we are proud of the enormous contribution that you, the IVCA members, make to maintaining the Wicklow 200’s reputation as Ireland’s Premier Sportive event.

Our event organisers, led by Alan Heary, whom most of you met at our Race Information Days in March, and Lorraine Lewis, have already sent out marshalling allocations (about 10 days or so ago) – from the following email address :
wicklow200volunteers@gmail.com

If you for some reason cannot see this in your email inbox, please check your junk / spam folder in the first instance, or failing this contact the above email address. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are aware of your marshalling position and time slot. If, after exhausting these methods, you are still unable to establish your marshalling role, please report for marshalling assignment to HQ at Bray Emmet’s GAA at 6.30AM on Sunday morning:

As you are aware, the terms and conditions of Racing Membership of the IVCA, which you accepted when applying for membership, require that you assist in the preparation or running of the Wicklow 200, either prior to, or on the day of the event. Membership fees have been heavily discounted in anticipation of the voluntary work by members on the event.

You are reminded that the following sanctions shall apply where members fail to assist with the event, or result in a “no show” at their allocated marshalling position/role:

  • a SIX WEEK ban shall apply to your participation in all racing and time trial events, AND
  • ALL prize awards and monies shall be forfeit

The IVCA wishes to thank all members for their assistance in marshalling the Wicklow 200, and we look forward to another successful event this year, thanks to all your help.
