Sunday’s Race Sept 2nd – Cancelled

Hi All
Due to the unavailability of a large number of marshals for next Sunday’s race 2nd Sept, the race committee regrets it has reluctantly had to cancel next Sunday’s race on health and safety grounds.
Regards,
 The Race Committee

September events and calendar changes

The summer may be coming to an end, but there’s still plenty of cycling on the menu for IVCA members in September.  There are also some important changes to the calendar which are outlined below.

Saturday 1st September is the date for our Track Championships in Sundrive Park.  Track accreditation is mandatory to participate.  See e-mail which was sent to members on 23rd August for further details. In the event of bad weather on the Saturday, the track meet with continue on Sunday, 2nd September.

On Sunday 2nd September, the re-scheduled final road race of the season takes place in Monasterevin, with sign-on at Monasterevin GAA Club.

Sunday 9th September sees the inaugural Gay Farnan Memorial tour take place.  This tour replaces the former West Wicklow 100 Km, which used to start from Tallaght.  The new tour starts at Dunsany GAA Club at 9.30 am and is open to IVCA members and friends.  We hope to have a good turn-out for what was always an enjoyable spin for racing and touring members alike at (almost) the end of the season.  Two routes are available, a 70 Km route and a 40 Km route.  Further details will be posted in the coming week.

The Sanyo 2-Up TT takes place on Sunday, 16th September, starting at 9.00 am in Warrenstown.  The AGM of the IVCA is on the same day, at 2.30 pm.  Documentation for the AGM has been issued to members by e-mail.

Finally, the IVCA Hill Climb takes place on Sunday 23rd September.  Due to the volume of traffic using the Long Hill in Kilmacanogue, we have changed the venue for the event this year.  The new climb will be Cromwellstown Hill, outside Rathcoole.  Sign-on and refreshments afterwards will be at the nearby Beech Park Golf Club.  You can find the location by clicking here.

100 in 8 Tour on 12th August

The IVCA’s 100 in 8 tour takes place next Sunday, 12th August.

Covering 100 miles (160 Km) in 8 hours is one of cycling’s standard touring challenges and has been a feature on the IVCA calendar for many years.  An engraved Silver Medal is awarded each year to any member completing the 50 in 4, the Wicklow 200 and the 100 in 8.

This year’s event will start from the Grasshopper Inn in Clonee, rolling out at 9:00am sharp.

The route will be similar to previous years (see map from 2016 below), but more likely to be cycled anti-clockwise this year:  i.e. heading out to Rathoath and Skryne before turning west to Delvin.

Even if you only want to ride part of the way, our touring members would be glad of the company and shelter from the wind as they take on this challenge.

Remember to bring some money for a food stop along the way.

TTL_09. 50 mile TT Championship. Moy Valley.

A fair morning for our last championship event.
Thirteen brave souls took on the test looked after by Medic ( not sure who was on duty ), timekeeper Harry and a full compliment of marshals so thanks to all, with four roundabouts to negotiate it’s great to have every junction covered.
Gold medal ride was by Hugh Davis with a super 2:06:06, and an Age Standard time of Plus 28:41.
In the process he actually lowered his previous years age record for a new age 71 record. On handicap Hugh was 6th.

Silver medal goes to Pat Byrne with a 1:58:24 ride for Plus 23:38. Pat took 5th place on handicap.

Bronze medal goes to Ian Cassidy with 1:54:16 for a Plus 22:52.

Fourth place was Phil Ormrod with 2:18:56 for a Plus 19:43, also good enough for a new age 74 record lowering Fred Harte’s 2013 record by one minute exactly.  Phil also took first place on handicap.

5th place goes to Mark Kidd with 2:00:47 for a plus 18:47 on his debut 50 TT with us.

6th place goes to Peter Raftery with 2:10:39 for a Plus 18:16 and also taking 4th place on handicap.

2nd place on handicap goes to Noel Conway.

3rd place on handicap to Ian O’Hara

Fastest – Ian Cassidy. 2nd – Pat Byrne. 3rd – Mark Kidd.

4th – Ian O’Hara. 5th – Ken O’Neil. 6th – Noel Conway.

Commiserations to Peter Rice and Brendan Byrne both of whom were DNF’s.

Final TTL event this coming Tuesday, 7th Aug at the green sheds for the Circuit TT.

Sat TT_09. 10 TT Kilcock.

So. The end of the drought, if today was anything to go by. More like a miserable morning in April 🙂

Ten very wet and cold riders and the same for the Marshals and timekeepers.
Thanks to Harry and Michael on the watches, Victor pusher off, and to Dave, Brendan and Eddie on the roundabout.
Next Saturday is the 50 TT Championships at Moy Valley. Note. First man off is 0900 not 1000 which has appeared inadvertently on an earlier calendar.
On the same calendar the Sanyo Cup on 16th Sept appears as 0900 which is also an error, the correct time being 1000.

Sat TT_07. 10 TT, Johnstown Bridge.

A beautiful morning but a disappointing turnout of just nine riders. I guess holiday time will account for that.
A full compliment of officials and marshals however so all went off safe and well.
Congratulations due to Ian Cassidy on lowering a long standing age 44 record with a great ride of 0:21:32.
Nobody beat handicap this morning but I got a nice bonus by being closest to it :-)..

Nice to see a couple of first time road bike competitors joining us, welcome Paul McDonnell and Gerd Benndorf.

Next Saturday we are at The Hatchet again. Another calm day would be nice 🙂

The following Tuesday, 17th, we are back to evening racing with the Al Fresco 25 TT at Black Bull.
